Singapore Feature at Spoke & Bird

Last Thursday 18th April 2024, I had the absolute pleasure of featuring at Spoke & Bird in Singapore.

I arrived at the Book Bar early and met the owner, Alex. If you are in Singapore, or visit Singapore, DEFINITELY check out this book shop. There are so many amazing books to be found here. And grab some food and something to drink while you are there too!

Steph Chan arrived a little after me. It was so great to finally meet in person and the poem they shared later in the night was SO good too!

The open mic kicked off at 8pm. Everyone was so incredible. So incredible, in fact, that it made me adjust my set-list as I felt the energy and vibe of the room!

The first feature for the night was Wen-Yi Lee, who has a new book, “The Dark We Know” coming out later this year, so keep an eye out for that! The poetic prose shared definitely left me wanting more and waiting for this book!

The first break saw some important conversations begin with a number of people, and this reinforced the changes I had made to my set-list as I sought to ensure I met the audience where they needed me to meet them, sharing words that would resonate with them.

The second open mic set was as incredible as the first!

Then came my performance. I ended up squeezing 10 poems into my set, and the audience were definitely engaged. It was truly an honour and a privilege to be a part of the evening and to have an opportunity to share, both poetically and in conversation.

Wrapping up around 10pm, the venue closed around 10:30pm, and the conversations moved outside into the street. The conversations were important and reminded me why the words I write and share are so important to both me and to others.

New friends were made, and I hope that we were all able to help each other, even just for a point in time. But hopefully the things we talked through and shared help us all for a long time to come.

Thank you again to Spoke & Bird and the Book Bar for running such a great event and giving me the opportunity to share. I am truly honoured and grateful.

And thanks to my new friends who I was talking to outside long after the event ended. I managed to catch the last MRT back to my hotel… Thanks for letting me know they stopped at midnight!

If anyone is after a copy of my first poetry collection, “Soul Refraction” (Dragonfly Publishing), it’s available from most online bookstores, or DM me and I will make sure you can get a copy either locally, or directly from me.

On another note, it looks like I might have some more opportunities coming up later this year in both Australia and overseas, so watch this space…

Soul Refraction Turns 1

A year ago today (April 2023), Soul Refraction was launched in Australia thanks to Dragonfly Publishing. While its international Launch was in February 2023, it was an honour and a privilege to have an in-person launch for the Australian launch, and I am grateful to the Cove Civic Centre (Marion) Library for hosting the event. Thank you too to all of the artists who shared some of their words on the day including Skylar J Wynter, Neshka Turner, Tracey O’Callaghan Luke Baker and Elijah Kohn. It truly demonstrated the poetry community and how important it is. And thank you to every one who came along or supported me from afar, and to everyone who has purchased a copy of Soul Refraction.

Thank you too, to everyone who has come along to events across Australia. So far, I have shared my words and this book live in SA, WA, Qld, NSW, ACT and Vic. Your support is greatly appreciated, and it has been a joy to meet you all. Later this month, I am taking Soul Refraction to its first feature on the international stage; first stop, Singapore!

I would be truly honoured if on this, Soul Refraction’s first birthday, you could leave a rating or review on Goodreads, Amazon, or your favourite bookstore to help me celebrate and get the word out about this book! I would be truly grateful, and honoured to continue sharing Soul Refraction far and wide. I genuinely believe in the power of words, and believe that this book truly does help people navigate their own journey from breaking to healing, growing to soaring.

And if you haven’t read Soul Refraction yet and would like a copy, please message me, or head to your local bookstore and ask them to order it for you. The Publisher is Dragonfly Publishing and the distributor in Australia is Peribo.

In other news, book 2 is well underway and now has a working title, concept and cover idea. Quite a few poems are also complete and a bunch are in-progress, so look out for me sharing some of these on socials, and some of the longer poems at open mics and features during 2024.

Finally, thank you for your support and for being on this journey with me. It is appreciated and never taken for granted.

Recent Victoria Mini-Tour

Following on from my Aus Tour Oct 2023, at the end of February, I headed over to Geelong and Melbourne to share my words and my first book, ‘Soul Refraction’ (Dragonfly Publishing).

Starting in Geelong on 22nd February at Lowercase Poetry, I arrived at an amazing little bar called Medusa. I wrote and shared a poem to the evenings theme (Love in 25 words or less), and shared a few poems from ‘Soul Refraction’ too. It was a great event, and an honour to be a part of it and meet so many people and hear their poetry.

On Saturday 24th February, I headed to Melbourne and featured at Cherry Poets. It was a great afternoon filled with so much amazing poetry. It was an honour and privilege to share my words, and it was great to meet some new people and to finally catch up with some people in person who I met online during covid.

Thank you to both Lowercase and Cherry Poets for having me. It was an honour and privilege to share my words at your events. Some important conversations were started, and I hope my words touched and helped everyone who heard them.

Next stop, Singapore in April!

Aus Tour Oct 2023

So I am on my way home after sharing some of my poems 6 times across 4 states in 11 days. There have been many important conversations sparked from my words which has been a blessing and shown me once again the importance of vulnerability, of authenticity, of standing in our truth.

It has been great to meet so many poets who I have previously only met on zoom, and to reconnect with friends interstate.

Thank you to everyone who came to see me and hear me, both online and in person. It’s greatly appreciated and I am truly honoured and grateful 🙏

Traveling is not cheap and this tour has been funded by feature fees and book sales. So if you haven’t yet grabbed a signed copy of Soul Refraction and would like one, please message me and I will make it happen.

As for what’s next, I have a short feature coming up in Melbourne later in November… More on that soon.

Looking forward to meeting and connecting with more of you soon!
